About Joe Carter
“Touch em’ all Joe!” Those were the legendary words uttered after Joe Carter hit a walk-off homerun to win the 1993 World Series for the Toronto Blue Jays. Carter got his start in professional baseball after being named the 1981 College Player of the Year while starring at Wichita State University. The following summer he was selected in the first round with the No. 2 overall pick by the Chicago Cubs, and made his MLB debut two years later in the Windy City. After one season with the Cubs he headed to the Cleveland Indians and San Diego Padres from 1984 to 1990 before landing with the Toronto Blue Jays in 1991. While in Toronto he came into his own, earning five All-Star selections, winning two Silver Slugger awards, leading the Blue Jays to consecutive World Series titles in 1992 and 1993. He’d go on to play for the Baltimore Orioles before retiring with the San Francisco Giants in 1998. After his retirement he was inducted into the Toronto Blue Jays Level of Excellence, the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2003, Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 2004 and the Kansas Baseball Hall of Fame in 2008.
