About John Herdman
John Herdman has the unique distinction of having coached both the men's and women's national teams for Canada. Herdman was at the helm of the men's side from 2018-23, overseeing a period where they made tremendous strides in the FIFA World Rankings. Canada was named Most Improved Side in 2021 and qualified for their first World Cup in 36 years in 2022.
With the Canadian women from 2011-18, Herdman won two Olympic bronze medals. Right after taking the job, he successfully led them to gold at the 2011 Pan American Games.
Before coaching Canada, Herdman skippered the New Zealand women's national team from 2006-2011. He saw the ladies through action in the 2007 and 2011 FIFA Women's World Cup. They also qualified for the 2008 Olympics. He started in New Zealand as a regional academy coach from 2003-05.
