About John Sterling
Not many names are more associated with New York sportscasting then John Sterling. Sterling is the radio play-by-play man for the New York Yankees and has called ever game since 1989. Sterling is also a two-time Emmy winner for his work on the YES Network. His style is one-of-a-kind and he is well known for many of his signature catch phrases. Prior to his time in New York, Sterling spent nine years working for WSB Radio and Turner Sports in Atlanta. He was the voice of several different New York-area teams and a local talk show host from 1971-1978. Sterling’s broadcast career began in Baltimore, where he called the inaugural Baltimore Bullets season and Morgan State football. It is fitting though that the Manhattan native has had such a longtime association with New York’s most famous franchise.
