About Julio Franco
Julio Franco played 23 seasons in the big leagues with the Cleveland Indians, Atlanta Braves, Texas Rangers, New York Mets, Tampa Bay Devil Rays, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers and Chicago White Sox from 1982 to 2007. In 1978 he signed a free agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies out of his native Dominican Republic. After four seasons in the minors he earned a call up to the big leagues and played one season in Philadelphia before being traded to the Cleveland Indians, where played for eight seasons. During Franco’s long and successful career he earned three All-Star selections, five Silver Slugger Awards, the American League Batting Title in 1991 and the 1990 MLB All-Star Game MVP award. His best overall season came in 1994, when he hit .319 with 20 homeruns and 98 RBI. Franco retired in 2007 with a solid .298 batting average, 2,586 hits, 1,194 RBI and 281 stolen bases in 2,527 games.
