Justine Siegal

Justine Siegalmade MLB history, as theOakland Athleticsannounced she would serve as a guest instructor for their Instructional League club, making her the first woman to coach in big league history.

Siegal, 40, has completed the Major League Scouting Bureau school and has her Ph.D. in sport and exercise psychology. Her duties will include "a little bit of everything," ranging from hitting infield practice to offering her knowledge in meetings, according to Athletics assistant general manager David Forst, per Slusser.

A true pioneer, Justine was the first woman to throw batting practice to a Major League Baseball team. She has coached men’s pro and college baseball, and is a graduate of the MLB Scout School Development Program. Justine is the Chair of the Women’s Commission for the IBAF. She’s been featured in thousands of news outlets, including the NY Times, Oprah Magazine, and ESPN Sports Center. Her life passion is to help girls follow their baseball dreams. Justine received her PhD in Sport Psychology from Springfield College.

In 2011, Justine made history becoming the first woman to throw batting practice to a MLB team. She first threw to theCleveland Indiansand later to the A’s, Rays, Cardinals, Mets, and the Astros. Her feat inspired millions. She trended on Yahoo and was part of David Letterman’s monologue.

After two years as the only woman coaching in collegiate baseball, Justine was hired as the 1stbase coach for the independent minor league team, the Brockton Rox in 2009. She is the only woman to have coached men’s pro baseball. Her baseball card is now a collector’s gem.

An international leader in baseball, Justine sits on the Board of Directors for the World Baseball Softball Confederation. She is also the Chair of the Women’s Commission for the International Baseball Federation. With great honor, she represented the sport of baseball at the IOC’s 5thInternational Athlete’s Forum.
