Katie Grimes

The American swimmer Katie Grimes has quickly become one of the leading competitors in international swimming competitions. She started swimming at six years old in Las Vegas Nevada on January 8th 2006 after her older brothers introduced her to the sport because she wanted to replicate their achievements. She joined the Sandpipers of Nevada club team after committing to swimming because she wanted to develop her freestyle and individual medley and open water skills.

At the 2020 U.S. Olympic Trials Grimes became the youngest member of Team USA that year by earning a spot on the Tokyo team at age 15. She achieved fourth place in the 800-meter freestyle at Tokyo Olympics before becoming the first American woman to compete in both pool and open water swimming at the same Olympic Games by participating in the 10-kilometer open water race in Paris 2024.

During the Paris 2024 Olympics Grimes obtained a silver medal in the 400-meter individual medley while finishing tenth in the 1500-meter freestyle competition. She took part in the 10-kilometer open water competition to finish in 15th position. The World Championships have awarded Grimes four long-course medals consisting of three silver and one bronze while she set the World Junior Record in the 1500-meter freestyle at the 2022 FINA Swimming World Cup.

Grimes joined the University of Virginia swimming and diving team in January 2025 to become an immediate impact player who won ACC titles in the 500-meter freestyle and 400-meter individual medley while earning All-America recognition in multiple events.

Grimes dedicates her free time to listening to music and working on her 1976 Toyota Land Cruiser and shopping and spending time with her family. Through her dedication and accomplishments she continues to motivate the swimming community.
