About Kayla Harrison
Kayla Harrison has excelled in Judo since she started training at age six. In 2008, when she was eighteen, Harrison won eight gold medals across the country. Since then she has competed around the world including the 2012 Olympics where she became the first American to win a gold medal in Judo. She beat out Great Britain’s Gemma Gibbons by just two yukos to clinch the gold. Harrison was able to impressively not only overcome great personal struggles to get there, but also use it as motivation to train harder and work to become a better judoka. With the help of her new coaches on the East Coast, she was able to excel in the Judo world and continue to shine in a worldwide spotlight. Kayla also founded the Fearless Foundation, which enhances the lives of victims of childhood sexual abuse through education and athletics, enabling survivors to flourish in all aspects of their lives.
