About Kei Nishikori
Kei Nishikori is the only male Japanese tennis player to be ranked inside the top 10 in ATP singles rankings. He has won four out of five ATP World Tour 500 Series matches. Nishikori made history by reaching the finals in the 2014 Madrid Open and faced Rafael Nadal. Although he won his first set, Nishikori was unable to finish due to a back injury. The competition still raised his rankings to number nine in the ATP singles. Nishikori made his first Grand Slam final appearance at the 2014 US Open. He became the first Japanese man in 81 years to reach the semi-finals at a Major and then after his win over Djokovic, becoming the first Japanese man to ever reach the finals. Nishikori’s impressive performance at his first Year-End ATP Finals, earned him a number five ranking, a position which he still holds today.
