About Mats Wilander
Mats Wilander was one of the most successful tennis players in the 1980s. He won seven Grand Slam singles titles in the decade. Wilander was a three-time winner at the Australian Open and the French Open. He also captured one singles title at the U.S. Open and was 1986 doubles champion at Wimbledon. In 1988, Wilander finished ranked number one in the world after winning three of the year's four Grand Slam events. He is one of just six men to win Grand Slam singles titles on grass courts, hard courts and clay courts. Wilander and Rafael Nadal are the only two players to win two Grand Slams on each of the three major surfaces. Overall, he captured 33 singles titles and seven doubles titles. Wilander won eight Grand Prix Super Series titles and helped lead Sweden to seven straight Davis Cup finals. He was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame in 2002.
