About Matthew Slater
Matthew Slater is the perfect example of someone who perfected his craft. Slater was perhaps an afterthought when he was drafted by the New England Patriots in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL Draft, but he became arguably the greatest special teams player in league history.
Slater was selected to the Pro Bowl ten times and was a five-time First Team All-Pro. He spent his entire 16-year career with the Patriots and won three Super Bowls.
Slater was also known as one of the best leaders and ambassadors off the field. He was a recipient of the Bart Starr Award and Art Rooney Award during his career, which both recognize sportsmanship. In 2013, Slater was awarded the New England Patriots 11th Ron Burton Community Service Award by owner Robert Kraft for his strong commitment to community service and leadership.
Slater was also the United Way representative on the Patriots and founded the Slater Family Foundation with his wife in 2020. He is a vocal Christian and regularly made mention of his faith when addressing the media.
