About Mel Kiper
Mel Kiper was born in July 25, 1960 in Baltimore, Maryland. In the late 1970s, Kiper was a teen-aged wannabe NFL scout. While in high school, Kiper gave some of his player evaluations to the Baltimore Colts executive Ernie Accorsi. Accorsi then encouraged Kiper to become a draft analyst and in 1981, Kiper started his own NFL talent evaluating business, Kiper Enterprises. While working for Kiper Enterprises, Kiper racked up huge phone bills and he had to have his father install a satellite dish so he could gather his information for the draft report. In 1982, Kiper was offered his dream job from Accorsi with a front office position, but the Colts moved to Indianapolis shortly after and left Kiper behind. Kiper is a football analyst with ESPN and he has served as an analyst for the NFL Draft coverage since 1984. Every week Kiper created a “big board” where he ranks the top 25 players.
