About Mike Emrick
Mike Emrick is one of the leading voices in the game of hockey. He is currently the lead announcer for the NHL on both NBC and NBC Sports, and has done play-by-play on CBS, NBC, ABC, TNT, ESPN, Fox, CSTV, SportsChannel Philadelphia, PRISM and Fox Sports Net. Emrick got his start in broadcasting after earning his undergraduate degree in Speech from Manchester University in 1968 and Masters degree in radio and television from Miami University in 1969. He’d go on to earn his Ph.D. in Communications from Bowling Green State University in 1976, hence the nickname “Doc”. After teaching speech and broadcasting at Geneva College from 1969 he began duties as a correspondent for the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1971. From that point on he worked his way up the ladder and became one of the most trusted and respected commentators in NHL history. In 2004 he earned the NHL’s Lester Patrick Award, and went on to earn the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award from Hockey Hall of Fame in 2008. In 2011 Emrick became the first member of the media to be inducted into the U.S. Hockey Hall of Fame.
