About John Davidson
John Davidson is a hockey lifer and has had a successful career in the sport as a player, broadcaster, and front office executive. The St. Louis Blues drafted Davidson 5th overall in 1973 and he became the first goalie to take the jump straight from juniors to the NHL. He spent two seasons with the Blues and eight with the New York Rangers. Playing with an injured left knee, Davidson led the Rangers to the 1979 Stanley Cup Finals. There is only one other player in NHL history to have ever worn a 00 jersey. Davidson then had a long-time broadcast career in New York with MSG Network and also called games for several national networks. In 2009, he received the Foster Hewitt Memorial Award from the Hockey Hall of Fame for his broadcasting work. Davidson left television in 2006 to become the President of Hockey Operations for the Blues and is now in the same role with the Columbus Blue Jackets.
