About Mike Hargrove
Mike Hargrove has had a successful life in baseball, first as a player and then as a major league manager. Hargrove began his 12-year big league playing career with the Texas Rangers in 1974 and won American League Rookie of the Year honors after hitting .323. He was named an All-Star the following season, the highlight of his five seasons in Texas. Hargrove also played with the San Diego Padres and the Cleveland Indians before retiring in 1985.
Hargrove's greatest career turn would also change the fortunes of the Cleveland franchise when he became manager in 1991. He developed the roster from the ground up, turning them into one of the best teams of the decade. The team won five straight American League Central Division Titles from 1995-99. They made trips to the World Series in 1995 and 1997. Hargrove also went on to manage the Baltimore Orioles and Seattle Mariners. He is a member of the Cleveland Guardians Hall of Fame and continues to serve the organization as an advisor today.
