About M.L. Carr
M.L. Carr was a former swingman for the ABA’s St. Louis Spirits and the NBA’s Detroit Pistons and Boston Celtics. With the Celtics, Carr won two NBA titles in 1981 and 1984. In 1979, he led the NBA in steals and was named to the All-Defensive Second Team. Carr graduated from Guilford College in 1973, but did not immediately make the roster of an American professional league team. For one season, he suited up for the Israel Sabers in the European Pro Basketball League and won MVP honors. Carr stayed active in basketball in retirement and was named Celtics general manager in 1994. He coached the team for two seasons after that before being named Director of Corporate Development. Carr was also President of the WNBA’s Charlotte Sting for a period of time. He is originally from Wallace, North Carolina and currently resides in Huntsville, Alabama where he is president of an insurance marketing firm. Carr’s autobiography, Don’t Be Denied, was co-written by Bob Schron.
