About Norm Nixon
Norm Nixon is a retired professional point guard for the National Basketball Association. Nixon played football and basketball in high school and he was named to all-state in both sports. The Pittsburgh Steelers and the Dallas Cowboys offered Nixon a free agent tryout. He was also named as the starting guard on the Georgia All-State team for 1973 after he led Southwest to the 1973 state high school basketball championship. Nixon attended Duquesne University where he played four full seasons on their men’s basketball team. Nixon was named first-team AllEastern Eight Conference and he holds the record for career assists. The Los Angeles Lakers selected Nixon as the 22nd overall pick in the 1977 NBA Draft. Nixon played for the Lakers for 6 seasons and helped them win NBA Championships in 1980 and 1982. Nixon was traded to the San Diego Clippers prior to the start of the 1983-84 season. In his first year with the Clippers Nixon led the league in total assists and made the All-Star team for the second time in the 1984-85 season. Nixon retired from the NBA in March 1989.
