About Orel Hershiser
Orel Hershiser is a former Major League Baseball pitcher. Hershiser attended Bowling Green State University where he hardly played his freshman year. As a sophomore, Hershiser was academically ineligible, so he signed up for summer classes to bring his grades up and worked on his fastball. In his junior year, he made the Mid-American Conference All-Star team. The Los Angeles Dodgers selected Hershiser in the 17th round of the 1979 MLB Draft. He remained in the minor league until 1983. On September 1, 1983, Hershiser was called up to the Dodgers for the first time and made his debut. Hershiser made his first start on May 26, 1984 against the New York Mets. In 1988, Hershiser became the only player to receive the Cy Young Award, the Championship Series MVP Award, and the World Series MVP Award in the same season. Hershiser also played with the Cleveland Indians, San Francisco Giants, and the NY Mets. Hershiser signed a one-year contract with the Dodgers in 1999, but they released him on June 26, 2000. After retiring, he became a color analyst and a professional poker player.
