About Pat Fitzgerald
Pat Fitzgerald is the current head coach of the Michigan State Spartans. In the 1990s, Fitzgerald was a star linebacker at Northwestern, earning multiple All-Americanhonors, Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year, the Bronco Nagurski Trophy, and the Chuck BednarikAward. Fitzgerald led the Wildcats to their second-ever bowl appearance in 1996when the Wildcatswent to the Rose Bowl with a 10-1 record.
After graduating, Fitzgerald joined the coaching staff at theUniversity of Maryland as a linebacker coach. He would serve this role for Colorado, Idaho, andNorthwestern in various seasons.
In 2005, after five seasons with the Wildcats, Fitzgerald was namedthe head coach at his alma mater after Randy Walkerunexpectedly passed away. He had a storied tenure at Northwestern, guiding the program to five top 25 finishes and two Big Ten West titles.
