About Mike Shanahan
Mike Shanahan is a former football coach. While playing football at Eastern Illinois University, Shanahan experienced an almost fatal hit when he was hit on the practice field and one of his kidneys ruptured, causing his heart to stop for thirty seconds. His playing career ended after that hit and he decided to take up coaching. Upon graduating from Eastern Illinois, Shanahan served as an assistant coach at the University of Oklahoma. He also coached at Northern Arizona University, Eastern Illinois, University of Minnesota and the University of Florida before coaching at the professional level. The Denver Broncos hired Shanahan in 1984 where he served as the quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator. At the professional level, Shanahan has also coached for the Los Angeles Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and the Washington Redskins. He has 4 AFC Championship wins and one NFC Championship win. He has also recorded 3 Super Bowl wins.
