About Pat LaFontaine
Pat LaFontaine is a former NHL center, playing for three teams over his 16 year career. LaFontaine beganhis career in theCanadian Hockey League, playing two seasons and winning an MVP award and rookie ofthe year award. In 1983, LaFontaine was drafted third overall by the New York Islanders. The Islanderswould experience great success during LaFontaine’s tenure, making the playoffs every year until 1988. In1991, LaFontaine was traded to another New York team, the Buffalo Sabres. In his first season as aSabre, LaFontaine would have his personal best season, scoring 148 points in 84 games. His next fewyears in Buffalo would be riddled by injuries, but would still help them to multiple playoff berths.LaFontaine would be traded to the New York Rangers in 1997, making him one of only five players toskate for all three New York Based NHL Teams. The 1997-1998 season would be his last retiring after afull season. After his retirement, LaFontaine was inducted into multiple hall of fames, most importantlythe Hockey Hall of Fame in 2003. LaFontaine will certainly go down as one of the greatest and mostloved sports figures in New York history.
