About Patrick Kerney
Patrick Kerney is a former NFL defensive end, playing for the Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks over his 11 year career. Before he played in the NFL, Kerney was a star defensive lineman at the University of Virginia, recording 127 tackles and 24 sacks in three seasons. In his final season, Kerney was voted a first team All-American, as well as earning first team All-ACC honors. In the 1999 NFL Draft, Kerney was selected in the first round by the Atlanta Falcons, but did not make an impact his rookie season. In 2001, Kerney broke free, recording 12 sacks and earning a contract extension. His best season came in 2004, where he set career bests of 66 tackles, 13 sacks, and nine passes defended. This would earn him the first of two Pro Bowl honors. In 2007, Kerney opted out of his contract and signed with the Seattle Seahawks, leading the NFC in sacks with 14.5, and earning his second and last Pro Bowl honor. After two more seasons with the Seahawks, injuries and other factors led Kerney into retirement.
