About Pearl Washington
Pearl Washington is a retired basketball player, known for his time at Syracuse University. Washingtonwas considered the top recruit coming out of high school, and he committed to Syracuse to play underlegendary coach Jim Boeheim. Washington took theNCAA by storm in 1983 during his freshman season,leading the Orange with 14.4 points per game. It was during his freshmanyear that he wowed fans withthe move he called the “Shake and Bake,” where he would juke out the defender and lay the ball up.Washington would be even better his sophomore season, increasing his points per game to 15.4, whilealso leading theOrange back to the NCAA tournament, and being named a consensus All-AmericanDuring his third and final season atSyracuse, Washington averaged a career high 17.3 points, as he andthe Orange won their second Big East regular seasonchampionship. Following his storied career atSyracuse, Washington was drafted in the first round of the 1986 NBA Draft bythe New Jersey Nets, butcould never catch on in the NBA, eventually retiring after a stint with the Miami Heat and a few years inthe CBA.
