Pedro Martinez is a retired MLB pitcher, playing for five teams over his 18 year career. Martinez was originally signed as a free agent by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1988, making his MLB debut four years later. In 1994, the Dodgers traded Martinez to the Montreal Expos, where he would become a dominant starting pitcher for years to come. In the 1997 season, Martinez went 17-8 with a 1.90 ERA, winning the Cy Young Award in dominant fashion. Approaching free agency, Martinez was traded to the Boston Red Sox in the 1997 offseason, and he signed with the team for a six year contract extension. His second season with the Red Sox would prove to be one of the best seasons for a pitcher in the history of baseball, as he went 24-4 with a 2.07 ERA and 313 strikeouts. This “Triple Crown” of sorts won Martinez his second Cy Young Awards, winning every single vote, and finishing second in the MVP race. After anchoring a Red Sox pitching staff that would help win the 2004 World Series, Martinez left the team to join the New York Mets, where he would have three more prolific seasons before retiring in 2009. Martinez is truly one of the best pitchers the MLB will ever see, and will definitely be a first ballot hall of famer.
