About Peter Vecsey
Peter Vecsey is a well-known former American sports columnist. Vecsey’s worked almost exclusively covering the NBA. He was the first national columnist for any sport when he joined the New York Post in 1976. Vecsey also advanced his career in television. For 12 years, he was a fixture as a reporter on the NBA on NBC. Vecsey also worked on NBA coverage for TBS/TNT and NBATV. He got his start in journalism as a statistician with the New York Daily News, where he spent 14 years. Vecsey got the Curt Gowdy Media Award from the Basketball Hall of Fame and is a member of the New York City Basketball Hall of Fame. The nicknames Larry Legend and Air Jordan which became synonymous with Larry Bird and Michael Jordan respectively were both coined by Vecsey. He grew up in Queens, New York and attended Archbishop Malloy High School and Hofstra University. Vecsey’s brother George is a semi-retired columnist for the New York Times.
