About Phil McConkey
Phil McConkey is a former NFL wide receiver who is one of the greatest football players in Naval Academy history. McConkey caught 56 passes for 1,028 yards and scored 13 total touchdowns. He graduated as the school's all-time leader in touchdowns, punt return yards and kickoff return yards. He helped the Midshipmen post a 9-3 record and win the Holiday Bowl in 1978. McConkey was named MVP of the game. After completing his military service requirement, he joined the roster of the New York Giants. McConkey was the first Navy player to join the NFL after his full four-year service tour since Roger Staubach. He played parts of his first five seasons with the Giants. McConkey had a memorable performance in Super Bowl XXI, grabbing 50 receiving yards, 25 punt return yards and a touchdown. He is a Buffalo, New York native and member of the Greater Buffalo Sports Hall of Fame.
