About Pierre Larouche
Pierre Larouche played 15 seasons in the National Hockey League with the New York Rangers, Hartford Whalers, Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins from 1974 to 1988. Prior to his pro career he played junior hockey with the Sorel Eperviers in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and won the Jean Beliveau Trohpy as the league’s top scorer in 1973-74, scoring 94 gaols with 157 assists for a league record 251 points. In the 1974 NHL Entry Draft the Pittsburgh Penguins selected him with the No. 8 overall pick. During his rookie season in Pittsburgh he scored 31 goals and added 37 assists for a total of 68 points. The following year he launched himself to superstardom with 53 goals, 58 assists and 111 total points. He went on to become the youngest player in NHL history to score 50 goals, 100 goals, 200 points and 300 points. In 1977 he joined the Montreal Canadiens and remained with the team through 1982. During that span he set a franchise single season record with 50 goals in the 1979-80 season. After two seasons with the Hartford Whalers he joined the New York Rangers in 1983 and broke their single season scoring record as well, tallying 58 goals in 1983-84. Larouche retired in 1988 as a member of the New York Rangers with 395 goals and 427 career assists in 812 games.
