Rafael Marquez

Rafael Marquez, born Rafael Marquez Alvarez in Mexico in the late 1970’s, is a professional soccer player stunning his country with his raw talent for the game. As a very diverse player, Marquez shines as a central defender, sweeper and defensive midfielder. Marquez played on club teams his entire life and has been known for his flaring temper earning him red cards in crucial moments of games. However, many regard this temper as an indication of his pure passion for the sport. Marquez debuted for Mexico’s national team in 1997 and has since made history by becoming the first player to ever captain his national team in four consecutive editions of the FIFA World Cup. With 16 World Cup matches played in his career to date, he holds the record for the most played in his country. Marquez currently represents number 4 for Verona, which he has been playing on since 2014. He continues to play with passion each and every day and makes his country proud as one of their best players of all time.
