Richie Hebner had an 18-year major league career spent primarily at third base. Hebner spent his first nine years with the Pittsburgh Pirates and helped the franchise win a World Series in 1971. During thatpostseason run, he hit two huge home runs in the National League Championship Series. That championship came in the middle of a three-year playoff run for Pittsburgh. Hebner hit .301 as a rookie with the Pirates in 1968. He went on to sign with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1977 and the franchise proceeded to win the National League East in back-to-back years. Hebner also played for the New York Mets, Detroit Tigers and 'Chicago Cubs. He retired following the 1985 season and went into coaching. Hebner was a hitting coach at the major league level for the Boston Red Sox and Phillies. He has spent significant time as a coach and manager in the minor leagues.
