Roger Kahn

Being born in Brooklyn, New York, Roger Kahn was a devout Brooklyn Dodgers fan throughout his entire life. Kahn began his newspaper career as a copy boy in 1948, and in 1952 began covering the Dodgers for the New York Herald. By 1956 Kahn became the sports editor for Newsweek for seven years before taking the position of editor-at-large at the Saturday Evening Post. Kahn is best known in the sports field as an author, bringing the world some of the top sports books of all time. Best known for his book, The Boys of Summer, Kahn walks us through the relationship he had with his father, centered on their shared passion for the Dodgers. In 2002, Sports Illustrated ranked The Boys of Fall second on a list of “The Top 100 Sports Books of All-Time”. Kahn wrote several other sports centered books including Good Enough to Dream which looks at minor league franchise ownership, Memories of Summer which discusses his youth and the effect baseball had on it, and The Era 1947-1957 as a look into New York’s three baseball clubs. Kahn is regarded as one of the greatest writers to cover baseball in history and his works continue to inspire up and coming journalists.
