About Rudy Gay
Rudy Gay was a highly touted recruit coming out of high school in Maryland and the 68 small forward accepted a scholarship to the University of Connecticut. Gay made an impact right away, splitting the honors of Big East Freshman of the Year and winning National Freshman of the Year by The Sporting News. As a leading player on the 30-3 UConn Huskies, Gay averaged 15 ppg as a sophomore and was nominated as a finalist for the Naismith College Basketball Player of the Year Award. Following the season, he was selected 8th overall in the 2007 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets who traded him to the Memphis Grizzlies. Gay made an immediate impact on the Grizzlies, selected to the All-Rookie First-Team and finishing 3rd in the voting for NBA Rookie of the Year. He spent 6 seasons with the Grizzlies, appearing in one Slam Dunk Contest and tying the franchise record for most career steals with 523. Gay has since played for the Toronto Raptors, Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs. He also won two FIBA World Cup gold medals as a member of Team USA.
