Sandy Alomar Jr.

Sandy Alomar is a former Major League Baseball catcher. Although having been retired from the sport as a player since 2007, Alomar returned to the Major Leagues to serve as a coach and then manager. He has both coached and managed the Cleveland Indians in addition to playing with them for the entire decade of the ’90s. He was born in Puerto Rico in 1966 and made his professional Major League debut in 1988 for the San Diego Padres. Throughout his nearly twenty-year career, Alomar played for the Padres, Cleveland Indians, Chicago White Sox, Colorado Rockies, Texas Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers and New York Mets. He was the American Leauge Rookie of the Year in 1990, a recipient of the Gold Glove Award in 1990, a sixtime All-Star and Major League Baseball’s All-Star Game MVP in 1997. After Alomar last debuted on the playing field for the New York Mets in 2007, he went on to return to the Mets organization the following year as the catching instructor. He has been a coach for the Indians since 2010. Alomar cannot get enough of the sport of baseball as he continues to surround himself with it and inspire others to become better people by it.
