About Steve Smith
Steve Smith had a successful 14-year career in the NBA. The Miami Heat originally made him the fifth overall pick of the 1991 NBA Draft. Smith was one of the first stars of the expansion franchise, making the All-Rookie team in 1992. By his fourth and final season in Miami, he averaged a career-best 20.5 points per game. Smith would spend the next five seasons of his career with the Atlanta Hawks. While with the franchise, he made his only All-Star Game appearance in 1998. Smith was traded after that to the Portland Trail Blazers. In his first season with the Blazers, Smith advanced to the Western Conference Finals. Smith won an NBA title with the San Antonio Spurs in 2003. After one final season with the Heat, he retired from basketball in 2005. Smith has gone onto a successful broadcasting career and currently works for NBA TV. In addition to his successful pro career, he had his jersey retired by Michigan State. Smith was a two-time first-team All-American for the Spartans and left school as the leading scorer in program history. He won an Olympic gold medal with Team USA in 2000 as well.
