About Tarik Skubal
Tarik Skubal serves as the Detroit Tigers' dominant left-handed pitcher who stands out for his powerful fastball and changeup combination. Tarik Skubal was born in Hayward California before moving to Kingman Arizona where he attended Kingman Academy of Learning without a baseball field to lead his team to state championships in 2012 and 2013. During the 2014 playoffs he pitched a flawless game. The lack of exposure did not stop him from earning a scholarship to Seattle University where he became their top pitcher. The Tigers drafted him during the ninth round of the 2018 MLB Draft.
The Tigers welcomed Tarik Skubal to their major league roster on August 18, 2020. By 2024, he had established himself as one of the premier pitchers in the American League. During that season he achieved the AL Cy Young Award and pitching Triple Crown while leading the league with 18 wins and a 2.39 ERA and 228 strikeouts since 2011.
Skubal demonstrates his dominance on the mound through his fastballs which reach high velocities and his slider and changeup with exceptional seam-shifted wake properties.
