About Tom Crean
Tom Crean knows his basketball, and since his days as an assistant at Michigan State University he has always been successful at both teaching the game and making men out of his players. From 1989 to 1999 he worked his way up through the coaching ranks, serving as an assistant at Michigan State, Western Kentucky, and Pittsburgh before landing his first head-coaching job at Marquette. After leading Marquette to a 190-96 record from 1999 to 2007 and five NCAA tournament appearances he was hired to bring back the Indiana Hoosiers from the brink. When he took over at Indiana in 2008 the Hoosiers were crippled by NCAA sanctions brought on by the previous administration. However, after a few rebuilding years Crean put the legendary hoops program back on track with consecutive NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances in 2011-12 and 2012-13. His guidance of the Indiana program to success from unthinkable depths is regarded as one of the most remarkable rebuilding projects in NCAA basketball history. For his success on the court in 2012 he was named both Big Ten Coach of the Year and ESPN.com National Coach of the Year.
