About Tony Meola
Tony Meola began playing soccer at an early age, and began to excel in high school when he was named All-State as a goalkeeper and a forward. After being named one of the top ten New Jersey high school players of the 1980s Tony went on to college playing for the University of Virginia, but left early to pursue a career with the U.S. National Team. Meola accomplished his goal by becoming a part of and appearing in 100 U.S. National Team matches including three World Cups. After a brief stent in England Tony came back to the United States and began to play in the newly created Major League Soccer in 1996. His best season came in 2000 when he was recognized as the League MVP, Goalkeeper of the Year, and MLS Cup MVP as he led his club to the MLS Championship. For his contribution, Tony was indicted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2012.
