About Tyron Woodley
Tyron Woodley is one of the top welterweights in UFC history. Woodley won the Welterweight Championship over Robbie Lawler at UFC 201 and had four successful title defenses. The showing also garnered Performance of the Night Honors.
Woodley originally joined the UFC in 2013 and won his first fight with a knockout over Jay Hieron. He went on to suffer a loss to Jake Shields but received Knockout of the Night honors when he defeated Josh Koshcheck at UFC 167. Woodley scored another impressive win over Carlos Condit before dropping a decision to Rory MacDonald.
Woodley has a background in wrestling and was a two-time All-American, the 2003 Big 12 Conference champion, and a three-year team captain at the University of Missouri. After wrestling for the Tigers, he began his professional mixed martial arts career in 2009.
Following his first two professional fights, Woodley was signed by Strikeforce. He won the first ten fights in his career before losing to Nate Marquardt for the vacant Strikeforce Welterweight Championship.
