About Vic Schaefer
Vic Schaefer is the head women's basketball coach at Texas. He was hired in 2020 after turning the Mississippi State program into a winner, culminating in an appearance in the NCAA Championship Game. That was the third straight NCAA Tournament appearance for MSU. In each of those seasons, the Bulldogs set a new program record for victories. In 2015, he took MSU to their first tourney since 2010 and was named SEC Coach of the Year. Schaefer was also a semifinalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year award. Prior to arriving in Starkville, he was the associate head coach at his alma mater, Texas A&M, from 2003-12. He won a NCAA title as an assistant in 2011. Schaefer was on the Arkansas staff from 1997-2003. During his time with the Aggies and Razorbacks, he was on staffs that made 11 NCAA Tournament appearances. Schaefer began his coaching career as an assistant at Sam Houston State for two years. He was also the head coach of the Bearkats for seven years.
