About Wendel Clark
Wendel Clark spent 15 seasons in the NHL, most notably with the Toronto Maple Leafs. He was the Leafs captain from 1991-1994 and the first overall pick in the 1985 NHL Draft. A two-time All-Star, Clark had his jersey hung in the rafters at the Air Canada Centre in 2008. Towards the end of the first of his three tenures in Toronto, he led the team to back-to-back conference finals trips. The pinnacle of his career may have come in the 1993 playoffs, where Clark had 20 points in 21 games. Accumulating almost 1,700 penalty minutes in his career made him a known enforcer. While he captained the Maple Leafs, his array of hits led to the nickname Captain Crunch. Clark is still active in Toronto as a team ambassador. He was inducted into the Ontario Sports Hall of Fame in 2011 and also owns two restaurants in the province. Clark’s cousin is legendary hockey commentator and coach Barry Melrose.
