About Will Clark
Will Clark had a long successful major league career as one of the most feared hitters of his era. Clark was a six-time All-Star and most known for his eight years with the San Francisco Giants. With the Giants, he was the All-Star starting first baseman for five straight seasons and won the NLCS MVP award in 1989. In that 1989 season, Clark also finished second in the MVP race to Giants teammate Kevin Mitchell. He was known as “Will the Thrill” due to his prowess at the plate. Clark also played for the Texas Rangers, Baltimore Orioles, and St. Louis Cardinals. In his final season, he was a key acquisition for the Cardinals down the stretch. Stepping in for the injured Mark McGwire, Clark helped the Redbirds to a win over the Atlanta Braves in the NLDS before losing to the New York Mets in the NLCS. The Giants originally selected him second overall out of Mississippi State in the 1985 MLB Draft. Clark was a legend for the Bulldogs, winning the 1985 Golden Spikes Award as the best player in college baseball. His prodigious career at MSU earned him election to the College Baseball Hall of Fame in 2006. Clark is also a member of the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame and Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame. In his post-playing career, he has been an advisor for the Giants and the Arizona Diamondbacks.
