About Yu Darvish
After a storied career in Japan, Yu Darvish has taken baseball in America by storm. Darvish has been an All-Star in each of his first three seasons. In 2013, he finished second in Cy Young voting and led the American League in strikeouts. No pitcher has reached the 500-strikeout mark quicker in MLB history. From 2005-2011, Darvish pitched for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters in Japan. He was a two-time Pacific League MVP and one-time winner of the Sawamura Award, which is considered the Cy Young Award of Japanese baseball. A five-time Nippon Professional Baseball All-Star, Darvish finished his career in the league 93-38 with a 1.99 ERA. He has also competed for Japan in the 2008 Olympics and won gold with the team at the 2009 World Baseball Classic. Darvish has drawn great interest in both domestically and internationally since high school days. His parents both met in the U.S. during college, perhaps setting the stage for their son’s eventual crossover to American baseball.
