About Anthony Ervin
Anthony Ervin has had a lengthy career in competitive swimming. Ervin is a three-time Olympic medalist and two-time World Champion. At one time, he held the world record in the 50-meter freestyle. His first Olympic experience came in 2000. In Sydney, Ervin won gold in the 50-meter freestyle was a silver medalist with the 4x100-meter relay team. With his wins, he became the first African-American swimmer to medal at the Olympics. In 2003, Ervin retired from competition, but he would make a comeback in 2011. He qualified for the 2012 Olympics and placed fifth in the 50-meter freestyle. Ervin was back in the Games as a 34-year-old in 2016. He won gold as a member of the 4x100 meter freestyle relay team. Ervin ran the anchor leg in prelims, subbing in for Michael Phelps who only raced in the final.
