About Ben Cherington
Ben Cherington is one of the brightest executives in baseball. Cherington was hired as the general manager of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2019 after spending three years as the vice president of baseball operations for the Toronto Blue Jays. All of Cherington's prior experience took place in the Boston Red Sox organization. He joined the organization as an area scout in 1999 and eventually became the director of player development in 2005. Cherington went on to serve as vice president of player personnel and senior vice president and assistant general manager. When Theo Epstein left his lead role in baseball operations after the 2011 season, he took over as the Red Sox general manager. Cherrington revitalized the franchise, retooling the roster in an effort that led to a World Series title in 2013. That season, he was named Executive of the Year from The Sporting News.
