Bill Clark

Bill Clark made a name in coaching as the highly-successful football coach at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Clark has overcome tremendous odds to achieve success at UAB. In 2014, his first season, he took a perennially losing team to a 6-6 record. However, following the season, the school decided to close the program down. Outrage from the community forced UAB to reinstate football, but they did not return until 2017. Miraculously, Clark guided the team to an 8-5 record in their first year back and an 11-3 mark in year two. The Blazers also won Conference USA in 2018. Clark was honored with the C-USA Coach of the Year award in 2017 and the national Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award in 2018. UAB won the conference again in 2020 and overall he went 49-26 in six seasons. Clark was forced into early retirement in 2022 due to long-standing back issues.

Prior to coming to UAB, he had a lengthy background coaching college and high school football in the state. Clark spent nine years as the head coaches at Prattville High School, winning two state titles and posting a 106-11 record. After back to back championships, he got a shot in the college game as the first defensive coordinator at South Alabama in 2008. He remained in that role until taking over as the head coach at Jacksonville State in 2013. In one year with the school, he set 49 program records and led the team to the FCS Playoffs.
