About Bill James
Bill James is one of the names synonymous with the history of baseball. James has chronicled America's pastime in over two dozen books and also was one of the early adopters of advanced analytics or sabermetrics. His Bill James Baseball Handbook has become something fans look for each year. James' writing career actually began in 1977 with The Bill James Baseball Abstract. James, himself, has created several new baseball statistics like runs created, range factor and win shares. After he had become baseball's preeminent statistician, he was hired as an advisor to the Boston Red Sox in 2003. James stayed with the organization through the 2019 season and collected four World Series rings. In 2006, his groundbreaking work even landed him on the Time 100 list as one of the 100 most influential people in the world.
