About Boog Powell
Boog Powell played in the big leagues for 16 seasons with the Baltimore Orioles, Cleveland Indians and Los Angeles Dodgers from 1961 to 1977. Powell got his start in baseball as a youngster, representing Lakeland, Florida at the 1954 Little league World Series. Powell got the call to the big leagues in 1961 after leading the minor leagues in homeruns in 1960. During his career he helped lead the Orioles to two World Series titles in 1966 and 1970 and was twice named American League Comeback Player of the Year in 1966 and 1975 while also earning four All-Star selections. Powell’s best statistical year came in 1970 when he hit a career high .304 with 37 homeruns and 121 RBI. However, that year he only finished as the runner-up for the AL MVP Award. The following year he went on to win that elusive MVP Award after hitting .297 with 35 homeruns and 114 RBI. Powell retired in 1977 with 339 homeruns and 1,187 RBI. He’d go on to be inducted into the Baltimore Orioles Hall of Fame.
