Buddy Bell played 18 seasons in the major leagues with the Cleveland Indians, Texas Rangers, Cincinnati Reds, and Houston Astros from 1972 to 1989. During his time in the league as a player he earned five All-Star selections, won six Gold Glove Awards at third base and the 1984 Silver Slugger Award. In 1989 he retired with a career .279 batting average and 201 homeruns to go along with 2,514 hits and 1,106 RBI. For his contributions to the Rangers organization he was inducted into the franchise Hall of Fame. After retiring as a player he became a coach in the Cincinnati Reds minor league system before being named the manager of the Detroit Tigers in 1996. After two years as the helm for the Tigers he managed the Colorado Rockies and then took over as the manager for the Kansas City Royals in 2005. In 2007 Bell stepped away from the game to spend more time with his loving family.
