About Chris Kamara
Chris Kamara is a former professional soccer player, manager, and television pundit. A native of Middlesbrough, England, he was known as a tough-tackling midfielder. He began his career with Portsmouth in 1975 after joining the Royal Navy at 16. Kamara played for nine clubs, including Swindon Town, Brentford, Stoke City, Leeds United, and Bradford City, making over 600 league appearances and scoring 71 goals. Notably, he helped Leeds win the Second Division title in 1989-90 and was Brentford’s first Black player, earning Supporters' Player of the Year in 1983-84. He managed Bradford City (1995-98), leading them to promotion in 1996, and briefly Stoke City in 1998.
Post-retirement, Kamara became a beloved Sky Sports pundit (1999-2022), known for his infectious enthusiasm and catchphrase "Unbelievable, Jeff!" on “Soccer Saturday.” Diagnosed with speech apraxia in 2022, he stepped back from broadcasting but returned to television in 2024 after therapy. He was awarded the prestigious MBE (Member of the British Empire) in 2023 for football, anti-racism, and charity work, and he received the Freedom of Wakefield in 2024.
