About Dan Bylsma
Dan Bylsma is one of the most successful head coaches in the NHL. Bylsma is the current head coach of the Seattle Kraken and previously piloted squads for the Pittsburgh Penguins and Buffalo Sabres. In his first head coaching stint, he took over the Penguins on an interim basis in 2009 and went on to win the Stanley Cup.
Bylsma made the playoffs every year in that six-year run in Pittsburgh and captured two division titles. He also won the Jack Adams Award in 2011 when his two superstars, Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin, went down with injury.
In 2014, Bylsma became the winningest coach in Penguins history and led Team USA during the Winter Olympics. He left for the Sabres the following year and coached them for two seasons.
Bylsma subsequently served as an assistant coach with the Detroit Red Wings and as a coach in the Kraken's minor league system before taking over their NHL squad in 2024.
Before becoming a coach, Bylsma spent time as a player with the Los Angeles Kings and Anaheim Ducks. He jumped into the coaching profession as an assistant with the Ducks’ AHL affiliate and the New York Islanders. In 2008, Bylsma was hired to become the head coach of the Penguins’ AHL affiliate before becoming interim head coach in the NHL.
