About Dan Wilson
Dan Wilson is a retired MLB catcher who spent 16 seasons in the league with the Cincinnati Reds and the Seattle Mariners. Originally drafted by the New York Mets out of high school in 1987, Wilson turned down the offer to play collegiately at the University of Minnesota. After three seasons at Minnesota, Wilson entered the 1990 MLB Draft, this time going in the first round to the Cincinnati Reds. Wilson spent the next two seasons in the minor leagues, making a brief appearance with the Reds at the end of the 1992 season before being traded to the Seattle Mariners in return for second baseman Bret Boone. Wilson made the Mariners’ roster out of Spring Training, earning the starting job and excelling on the defensive side by posting a .986 fielding percentage in his rookie season. In 1996, Wilson had his best season, posting 18 homeruns and 83 RBI, netting him his first and only All Star nod. Wilson would go on to be a mainstay with the Mariners until 2005 when he tore a ligament in his right knee, eventually leading to his retirement after that season.
