About Davey Lopes
Davey Lopes has been a part of professional baseball for over 40 years. He got his start in pro ball in 1968 after being selected in the second round of the MLB Draft by the Los Angeles Dodgers. He’d go on to play 16 seasons in the big leagues with the Los Angeles Dodgers, Oakland Athletics, Chicago Cubs and Houston Astros from 1972 to 1987. During that span he earned four consecutive All-Star selections as a second baseman from 1978 to 1981, a Gold Glove Award in 1978 and helped the Dodgers to a World Series title in 1981. After his retirement he joined the Baltimore Orioles as a coach from 1992 to 1994 and went on to coach with the San Diego Padres from 1995 to 1999 before being named the manager of the Brewers in 2000. After two years at the helm with the Brewers he returned to the Padres as a coach and then coached one year in Washington before landing with the Phillies in 2007. During his second season as a coach in Philadelphia he earned his second World Series ring.
